About borders, borderlands and (not) crossing them… confronting a journalist and a sociologist views
On Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023, a discussion with Ewa Pluta (journalist) and Kamilla Dolińska (sociologist, University of Wrocław) took place, as a part of the series of debates around “Socioperception”. The meeting was led by Elżbieta Opiłowska, and the event was organized by The Center for Regional and Borderlands Studies of the University of Wrocław, a partner of our network. There were also representatives from the Institute of Political Science and Public Administration of the University of Opole.
During the event, two projects closely related to the subject of life in the borderland were compiled presenting perspectives of a journalist and a social scientist. Ewa Pluta recently wrote and published a book – reportage – from her 1000 km long hike along the Polish Eastern border (“Rubież”). Whereas Kamilla Dolińska spoke about the book, which is soon to be published, being an effect of the research project about border narratives in Central Europe. The subject of the debate concerned visible but imperceptible borders and an impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the revival of borders.
