International Conference in Opole, Poland   – New Challenges for Borderlands Studies: Regional, European and Global Perspectives

In September 8-10, 2021 the Institute of Political Science and Administration of the University of Opole organized international conference devoted to borders and borderlands. The conference was an interdisciplinary event  getting together political scientists, sociologists, geographers  and economists from 13 countries representing  more than 20  higher education institutions. Aside of 11 panel sessions, the participants enjoyed  keynote  lectures delivered  by recognized experts on the field of borderlands:  prof. Anssi Paasi (University of Oulu, Finland), professor Elżbieta Opiłowska (University of Wrocław, Poland) and doctor  Sara Svensson (University of  Halmstad, Sweden). As the conference gathered also partners from the newly established Border and Regional Studies Network (CEEPUS) it was a good opportunity to hold kickoff meeting of the network in order to discuss its future developments and priorities.
